Sugar Cookie Witch Fingers

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoons salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons almond extract
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 cups whole almonds
  • 1 tube of red gel food coloring

Method

Step 1

Cream together: butter, sugar, powdered sugar, salt, eggs, oil, vanilla and almond extracts.

Step 2

Add flour, cream of tartar and baking soda. Mix well and freeze for 30 minutes.

Step 3

Heat oven to 325 degrees. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

Step 4

Remove dough from freezer. Take about 2 tsp. of dough and roll into a thin, pencil-sized shape. (Cookies will be fragile but thicker ones will bake up as chubby fingers!) Set on parchment paper. Press an almond on end of "finger" for a "fingernail."

Step 5

Squeeze cookie in center and again near end to resemble knuckles. Using a sharp knife, gently slice creases in the knuckles. See photo.

Step 6

Repeat with all dough, bake 15-18 minutes.

Step 7

Remove the almond from the ends of cookies, drop a few drops of gel onto "nail bed" and then replace almond. Cool. Serve.
