This is the best apple pie I’ve ever made or eaten! What better way to celebrate “Pi” day than with pie? Dutch Apple Pie with Oatmeal Streusel Topping is the answer. What makes it “Dutch” and what is “Streusel” you might be asking? Well, when apple pie has a crumb topping as opposed to a pie crust topping, we give the Dutch credit. “Streusel” actually comes from Germany and the main ingredients are flour, sugar and butter. (I toss in oats whenever possible.) Germans don’t have pies but rather tarts. Having spent ~5 years growing up in Germany, I loved their Streusel Kuchen. Kuchen is cake. Basically it was a thin crust, fruit and the crumb topping made in a large, rectangular pan.

Consequently, this apple pie is an American-Dutch-German collaboration and it is a winner! On that note, Happy Pi Day and enjoy this Apple Pie today and for years to come as I have!
